Woman’s death connected to Monday’s storm

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS ) – One person is dead as a result of the derecho that impacted the Fort Wayne area Monday night.

89 -year-old Janet Howell was inside a home in the 5400 block of Mason Drive in Waynedale during the storm.

She was severely cut by shattered glass when a tree fell on her home. Howell is the only death reported in connection to Monday’s storm.

The Allen County Coroner released the following:

On Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at about 0210 hours the Allen County Coroner’s Office was contacted and advised of the death of Janet M. Howell, female white 89 years of age. Janet M. Howell was at her residence during the storm which passed through Fort Wayne, during the overnight hours of June 13 – June 14, 2022. The incident occurred in the 5400 block of Mason Drive, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Janet M. Howell received a severe laceration due to shattered glass from the storm. Emergency services were dispatched to the home and transported her to a local hospital. Janet M. Howell was taken to the operating room but died as a result of the sharp forced injuries.
The Cause of Death is Exsanguation due to Sharp Forced Injuries due to Shattered Glass during Storm and the Manner of Death is Accident.
Janet M. Howell is the only reported storm related death in Allen County.
