INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – The ACLU of Indiana is suing the state over a new law.
The suit argues that a law that places restrictions on charitable bail organizations is unconstitutional.
The new law going into effect July 1st would allow groups like the Bail Project to only pay bail for “an indigent person who is not charged with a crime of violence or a person charged with a felony who does not have a prior conviction for a crime of violence.”
The ACLU argues this is a violation of the Bail Project’s First Amendment rights.
