FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) is investigating a fatal Sunday morning crash on Wells Street.
Just after 8 a.m., the FWPD says officers responded to the single-vehicle crash at Wells Street and Wallywood Avenue.
Witnesses told police the vehicle left the roadway and flipped.
When first responders arrived, they found one person in a crashed sedan unresponsive. Medics pronounced the driver dead.
FWPD said speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.
The area was closed for the investigation but has since reopened.
The FWPD released the following:
On August 4th,2024 at approximately 8:05am, FWPD received a report of a single vehicle accident that occurred near the intersection of Wells Street and Wallywood Ave. The initial call stated that a vehicle had left the roadway and flipped over on its roof. When Officers arrived, they found a single occupant in the sedan and unresponsive. Medics arrived and pronounced the driver deceased at the scene. It appears that speed was a factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the FWPD FACT team and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
