UPDATE (August 9, 2024):
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department says charges have now been filed against the man suspected of striking and killing a man on I-69 and then taking off.
The semi-truck he was driving on was found not long after the incident and now police say that John Dailey is facing several charges in connection to the death of Brad Anthony Nacio.

Crash Investigators with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department have arrested the driver who left the scene of a fatal hit and run crash on July 25, 2024. The crash occurred on I-69 northbound at the 318.9 mile marker at 2:38 A.M. Officers located vehicle parts at the scene that indicated a semi was involved. Evidence showed that the driver of a broken down semi was outside of his vehicle on the shoulder of the highway, when he was struck by the suspect’s semi. Crash Investigators identified the suspect and semi after receiving tips from the public. After assistance from other police agencies in two states, Crash Investigators were able to solidify their case.

Leaving the Scene of a Crash/Fatality Level 4 Felony
Reckless Homicide Level 5 Felony
Obstruction of Justice Level 6 Felony
UPDATE (July 30, 2024):
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department says that the semi-truck suspected in a fatal hit-and-run last week has been located.
Officials have not identified the driver and said the investigation is ongoing. The man found at the scene was identified as Brad Anthony Nacio, 48, of Indianapolis, Indiana.

With information provided by the public, officers from multiple jurisdictions in conjunction with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department were able to locate the semi tractor believed to be involved in the fatal hit and run crash that occurred on July 25, 2024 on I-69 northbound near the 319 mile marker. We appreciate all the assistance from both the public and other jurisdictions in this investigation.
This incident remains under investigation.

ALLEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Allen County Sheriff’s Department says that officers are currently on the lookout for a red or maroon semi-truck that was involved in a fatal hit-and-run on I-69 Thursday morning.
Officers found a disabled semi truck close to the 317 mile-marker around 2:30 a.m. and also discovered a body next to it. Police believe that the body was the driver of the disabled semi.
At the scene, officers recovered pieces of another semi-truck they think may have been involved.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department says that red or maroon Volvo semi thought to be involved will also have damage to the front passenger side and a missing mirror.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.

On July 25, 2024, at approximately 2:38 A.M., officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of I-69 northbound near the 319 mile marker, reference a disabled semi on the side of the highway and a body laying in the roadway.
Upon arrival, officers and medics located one person on the highway, who was deceased. A preliminary investigation indicated that the deceased person was the driver of a semi that was disabled on the side of the highway. Officers located vehicle parts from another semi, believed to be involved in this incident. Officers said they are looking for a red or maroon in color, Volvo semi tractor, with front passenger side damage, missing a mirror. Anyone with information about this semi is asked to contact the Allen County Sheriff’s Department via their Dispatch at 260-449-3000.
