FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The FWPD says that one person is in custody but another remains at large. Around 2:40 Saturday afternoon, the Fort Wayne Police Department says shots rang out in the food court.
One person was hit in the leg and another person was hurt in the chaos that followed. Both victims are expected to recover.
22-year-old Brandon D. Key was arrested at the mall. A second male suspect, the person police fired the gun, got away from the scene.
This is the third such incident at the Glenbrook Mall in the past year.
The FWPD released the following:
Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) officers responded to a shooting at Glenbrook Mall, 4201 Coldwater Rd., on May 4th, 2024, at approximately 2:41 pm. Several officers responded, including officers from other agencies, medics and the Fort Wayne Fire Department. Officers began to clear the mall as patrons and employees filtered out of the building.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a shooting did occur in the food court area of the mall. It is suspected that two males armed with guns were involved, with one actually doing the shooting. There was one person shot in a lower extremity; the victim’s condition is non-life threatening. Another victim may have fractured a lower extremity during the melee. That victim’s condition has also been determined to be non-life threatening. Both were transported to a local hospital.
Currently, the FWPD has arrested one person related to the shooting; however, the actual shooting suspect is still at-large. The person that has been arrested will be preliminary charged with Level 6 Felony Criminal Recklessness, Level 6 Felony Intimidation, and Misdemeanor Resisting Law Enforcement – Fleeing.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
