INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – A Senate bill to establish a bobcat hunting season has become law. Governor Eric Holcomb signed the measure Monday that will force the state Department of Natural Services to establish a bobcat hunting season by July 1st of next year.
The measure passed through both chambers despite pushback. Bobcats were endangered in Indiana until about 20 years ago and opponents say the animal’s population hasn’t recovered enough yet to be hunted. A major point of contention during the debate was the lack of accurate data on the bobcat population.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – A bill to force the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to establish and implement a bobcat hunting season by July 2025 continues to advance. The Senate passed the bill by a 40-9 vote and the House Committee on Natural Resources passed it Wednesday 11-1.
Critics are questioning if the bobcat population has recovered enough to be hunted after being on the endangered species list until 2005. The full House vote is up next.
