UPDATE (February 15, 2024):
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – There is closure for a local family after finally learning what happened when a woman went missing in 1992.
The family of Tabetha Ann Slain Murlin said they did not know what happened to her for the last 32 years. That was until the Allen County Coroner showed up with the news that Tabetha was the woman known as Mary Jane Doe who was found in a flooded basement on Reynolds Street in May of 1992. Her body was badly decomposed when it was found and for years there was not sophisticated enough testing to determine who she was.
For years the case went cold but in 2017, investigators exhumed her body and tried again with the help of a lab in Texas. This time, they were able to determine that Tabetha, who was pregnant at the time, was Mary Jane Doe.
The investigation surrounding her death is still open.
