FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department says that two adults and a cat got out safely after a fire broke out in a unit at the Coliseum Park Apartments on Sunday. Just before 7:30 p.m., crews were called to the 3900 block of Newport Avenue on reports of a fire inside a ground-floor apartment.
They were able to quickly get it under control and recover a cat that was still inside.
The FWFD says that no one was hurt but the apartment suffered moderate to heavy smoke, water, and fire damage.
The official cause is still under investigation.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department released the following:
Fort Wayne firefighters responded to a reported apartment fire. First arriving units found fire in a ground floor apartment. Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and search the fire and adjacent apartments. Two adults were home at the time of the fire but were able to escape without injury. One cat was reported missing but was found unharmed and reunited with its owner. The fire took approximately ten minutes to bring under control. The fire was contained to the unit of origin which sustained moderate smoke, water and fire damage. Firefighters were assisted by TRAA, AEP, NIPSCO and the apartment complex management. No injuries were reported at the time of this report.
