STEUBEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says two people are facing charges after trying to run from police on Friday. Ashley Rose Daniels and David Danquan Williams were reported to be in a vehicle on Old US 27 when they failed to stop when pulled over.
Police said that a high-speed pursuit ensued before ending in downtown Fremont after stop sticks were used.
The pair are now facing several charges and police say more could be added.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office released the following;
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Branch County (MI Sheriff’s Office with vehce pursuit tha occurred in northern Steuben County. On 09/22/2023 just after 11:15 am, Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Old US 27 near the Michigan state ine for a request from Branch County MI) Sheriff’s Office for assistance with a high speed vehicle pursuit traveling southbound on Angola Rd in Branch County, approaching the ndiana/Michigan state line
The vehicle, a blue 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was being pursued by Branch County Sheriffs deputies for excessive speed and failing to stop for a police office. The chase then entered Steuben County on Od US 27 and continued southbound to SR 120 as Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies were responding to the area. The suspect vehicle continued southbound on SR 127 from SR 120 then turned eastbound on SR 727 before heading back northbound on CR 50 W.
Once the vehicle reached SR 120 again, the chase turned back eastbound on SR 12. By that time, Steube County Sheriff’s deputies were able to deploy stop sticks on SR 120 west of Fremont n order to de-escaate and attempt to end the pursuit prior to reaching the town imits. The suspect vehicle struck the stop stcks an contnued eastbound into and through the downtown area of Fremont on SR 120 before turnng northbound on Ray St. Branch County Sheriffs deputies were then able to get the vehicle stopped at the intersection of Ray S and Spring St on Fremonts east side
Once the vehicle pursut was ended, the female driver fled from the vehicle on foot northbound and was quickl captured behind a resdence by the Branch County Sheriffs Office Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies were able to apprehend the male passenger at the vehicle. The driver was identified as 37 year old Ashley Rose Daniels of Kalamazoo, MI and the passenger was identified as 43 year old David Danquan Williams of Kalamazoo, MI. Daniels complained ofarm pain from a previous unrelated injury and was transported to Cameron Hospital by ambulance before being booked into the Steuben County Jail on preliminary charges of evel 6 felony resisting law enforcement with aa vehicle, cass C misdemeanor reckless drving, and cass B misdemeanor possession of Marijuana.
Williams was found to have an active felony arrest warrant out of Kalamazoo County, Michigan and was booked into the Steuben County Jail on the fugitive warrant and is awaiting extradition. The incident remains under investigation and additiona criminal charges are being sought against Daniels and Williams in Branch County, Michigan by the Branch County Sheriff’s Office Assisting both Sheriff’s Offices at the scene were the ndiana State Police, Indiana Department ofNatural Resources Law Enforcement Division, and Steuben County EMS.
