Fort Wayne police say that an arrest has been made in a June homicide.
23-year-old Mattie Marie Wilson was found on Greentree Court around 5 a.m. on June 25. Now, police say that another 23-year-old is facing a list of charges in her shooting death.
The Fort Wayne Police Department released the following:
On August 23rd, 2023 at approximately 0915 hours, the FWPD Homicide Unit took into custody Nicholas Steward regarding the homicide investigation of Mattie Wilson on 6/25/23. Steward was taken into custody without incident at police headquarters (1 E. Main St.) Steward was charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery (2 counts), Battery Committed with a Deadly Weapon, and Crim Reck with a Deadly Weapon. The Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office assisted in this investigation.
UPDATE (June 27, 2023):
We have learned the identity of a woman killed in a shooting Sunday that also left two men with critical injuries.
The Allen County Coroner says that 23-year-old Mattie Marie Wilson was found on Greentree Court around 5 a.m. and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The coroner has ruled her death as a Homicide.

On Sunday, June 25th, 2023, the Allen County Coroner’s Office was notified of a shooting in the 2000 block of Greentree Court, in Fort Wayne. First responders found a victim lying outside and transported her to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
The female victim was identified as Mattie Marie Wilson, 23, Black, of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Notification has been made to the next of kin. The Cause of Death on Mattie Maire Wilson has been determined to be Multiple Gunshot Wounds and the Manner of Death is ruled a Homicide.
Mattie Marie Wilson is the 14th Homicide for Allen County for 2023.
This incident is under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A woman has been killed and two men are hospitalized after they were shot early Sunday morning in Fort Wayne.
Police say the shooting in the 2,000 block of Greentree Court happened just before 5 a.m.
One victim was found during a traffic stop, and the other two were found at the scene. The injuries to the men are life-threatening.
FWPD officials released the following:
On Sunday, June 25th, 2023, at approximately 4:48 am, a FWPD officer heard shots being fired and headed toward that location. The officer then saw a vehicle leaving the area and initiated a traffic stop. The officer discovered an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Dispatch then received multiple calls about shots fired and the possibility of other victims suffering from gunshot wounds on the 2000 block of Greentree Ct. FWPD officers arrived on the 2000 block of Greentree Ct. a short time later and found an adult female and adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. All three were taken to a hospital. Hospital ER staff pronounced the female as deceased, and the two males were determined to have life-threatening injuries.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner.
