FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of East State Boulevard and Arrowwood Drive, within a designated school zone.
Beginning Tuesday, June 20, the signal will be fully functional. The new signal will provide additional safety for Blackhawk Middle School and Blackhawk Christian School students when crossing East State Boulevard.
The signal will also service both Blackhawk Community Association and The Knolls Association neighborhoods. That portion of East State Boulevard is used by approximately 15,000 cars per day and has a posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour.
The City released the following:
The new traffic signal will allow for increased safety of vehicular and pedestrian traffic, including the safety of students attending the three schools in the area – Blackhawk Christian Schools’ two buildings and Blackhawk Middle School through Fort Wayne Community Schools. This effort also complements safe routes to schools that the City has invested resources in that added sidewalks connecting Blackhawk Community, The Knolls, and Lake Forest neighborhoods with these schools. More sidewalk connections are also being planned in this area.
“One of our top priorities is to help ensure that all residents are protected and can get to points of destination safely,” said Mayor Tom Henry. “By working together with the community, this new signalization will be a tremendous benefit to the East State Boulevard corridor.”
The City of Fort Wayne would like to thank the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Fort Wayne Public Works Division, and the nearby neighborhoods and schools in the affected area for being partners on the project to help ensure safety.
