FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Police responded to three serious crashes in just hours of each other on Sunday night.
The first was on West Washington Center Road near West Street. That crash sent three people to the hospital. Officials say a motorcycle, an SUV, and two passenger cars were involved.
Police think the car rear-ended the motorcycle before also hitting an SUV.
The motorcycle driver was reported in critical condition. Neither he nor his passenger was wearing helmets.
The Fort Wayne Police Department released the following:
On Sunday, 05/01/2022, at approximately 7:10 PM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of West Washington Center Road and West Street reference a vehicle crash with injuries. Dispatch received several calls indicating the crash involved three vehicles and a motorcycle.
Officers arrived on scene and observed the crash involved a motorcycle, a sport utility vehicle (SUV), and two passenger cars. Paramedics transported the male/adult driver of the motorcycle to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The female/adult rear passenger on the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. A female/adult front seat passenger of the SUV was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The drivers and passengers of the remaining vehicles did not require any medical treatment at the scene.
Preliminary information indicates the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Washington Center Road and slowed for traffic near West Street. The passenger car traveling westbound behind the motorcycle failed to slow down and rear-ended the motorcycle. The crash forced the motorcycle into oncoming traffic and it struck a passenger car traveling eastbound on Washington Center Road. The passenger car that rear-ended the motorcycle crossed into oncoming traffic and stuck a SUV traveling eastbound on Washington Center Road.
The drivers of all three vehicles remained at the scene and are cooperating with investigators. The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
A short time later, police were called to Clinton and Jefferson. That is where a woman was killed after hitting a tree and utility pole. Police say she was pinned in the vehicle but crews got her out. However, she was pronounced dead by a doctor on arrival at a local hospital.
Police are asking that any witnesses come forward to help them understand what happened to cause the crash.

On Sunday, 05/01/2022, at approximately 7:35 PM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of South Clinton Street and East Jefferson Blvd. reference a vehicle crash with injuries. Witnesses reported a vehicle struck a tree.
Officers located a vehicle at the intersection with extensive damage. The female/adult driver (sole occupant) of the vehicle was pinned inside the vehicle suffering life-threatening injuries. The Fort Wayne Fire Department extricated the victim and she was transported to a
local hospital. Upon arriving at the hospital the victim was pronounced deceased by a physician.Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was traveling southbound on Clinton Street and left the west side of the roadway for an unknown reason. After leaving the roadway the vehicle struck a tree and a utility pole. Investigators are asking anyone that witnessed this crash to contact the Fort Wayne Police Department or use the free “P3 Tips” app.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroner’s Office, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the cause of death and identity of the victim.
And about two hours later, around 9:40 p.m., officers with the FWPD responded after a bicyclist was hit by a pickup truck on Illinois Road close Timberlake Trail. The bicyclist is said to have critical injuries.
The driver of the truck is cooperating with the investigation.

On Sunday, 05/01/2022, at approximately 9:39 PM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of Illinois Road and Timberlake Trail reference a vehicle crash with injuries. Officers arrived and located an injured bicyclist near the intersection.
Investigators advised the driver of a pick-up truck was traveling eastbound on Illinois Road.
As the pick-up truck entered the intersection at Timberlake Trail it struck the male/adult bicyclist that was attempting to cross Illinois Road northbound.The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pick-up truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
