STEUBEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana State Police say it is investigating after a Steuben County deputy fired a shot during a chase on Tuesday.
ISP that a pursuit began shortly after 7 p.m. in Pleasant Lake. According to a release, the suspect crashed on South West Riley Square and then took off on foot.
Officers say at some point during the chase, a Steuben County deputy fired his service weapon. They say the suspect was not shot and there were no injuries reported as a result.
The Indiana State Police officials issued the following release:
The Indiana State Police is investigating an officer involved shooting incident that involved a Steuben County Sheriff Department deputy last night near Pleasant Lake, IN.
The incident, which began shortly after 7:00pm, started as a police vehicle pursuit involving. The vehicle pursuit ended when the suspect crashed on South West Riley Square in Pleasant Lake, and then turned into foot pursuit as the suspect allegedly ran from the crash scene. At some point during the foot chase it was reported that one of the involved Steuben County deputies discharged his service weapon. The suspect was not struck, and there were no injuries reported as a result of that action.
The alleged suspect, identified as Jeremy Tuttle, 36, of Hudson, IN, went a short distance to a garage located on Easy Street. Officers from multiple agencies in the pursuit (including the Steuben County Sheriff Department, Indiana State Police, Hamilton Police Department, and Angola Police Department), surrounded that property and quickly apprehended Tuttle.
Tuttle was eventually transported by state troopers to the Steuben County jail, where he was booked into custody on felony and misdemeanor charges related to Resisting Law Enforcement (vehicular fleeing), Resisting Law Enforcement (physical), and Operating While Suspended.
This is an ongoing criminal investigation, for which there is no further information to release at this time. Once the ISP investigation has been completed and turned over to the Steuben County Prosecutor for review, a determination will be made as to whether further charges are warranted as a result of this incident.
