JAY CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Indiana State Police (ISP) Fort Wayne Post is investigating the death of a five-year-old in Jay County.
Police say around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, Portland officers were called to a home in the 600 block of South Western Avenue on reports that a child was unresponsive.
Portland police requested that investigators from the ISP respond. State Police then assumed the investigation.

Officers with the Portland Police Department responded to a home in the 600 block of South Western Avenue in Portland, IN last night at approximately 11:30 p.m. for a call of a five-year-old child that was unresponsive. The Portland Police Department requested that investigators from the Indiana State Police respond, and the State Police assumed the investigation.
An autopsy was conducted in Ft. Wayne. This is an ongoing and active investigation and there is no other information to release at this time. The Indiana State Police continue to work closely with the Portland Police Department, Jay County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Indiana Department of Child Services as this investigation continues.
