GRANT CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – A woman is dead after being attacked by a dog in Matthews. Deputies responded to the 300 block of High Street on Monday afternoon.
Kathleen Bertram was found bleeding from the neck and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her daughter told police Bertram was attacked by her own dog.
Authorities in Grant County released the following:
The Grant County Sheriff Department along with the Matthews Police Department was dispatched to 303 High Street Matthews Indiana for a Dog attack on its owner.
Upon the Sheriff Department arrival, they entered the House and observed an elderly white Female lying on the floor bleeding from her neck area on both sides. The First responders Administered CPR.
The Deputy did their initial investigation and was advised by the Victim daughter (Leta M Webb) that they were sitting in the Livingroom when her Mother Kathleen S Bertram Sat down in an uneven chair. While in the chair Kathleen fell to the floor. Ainsee Davis- Beatty (Leta Daughter) started crying. The family Pitbull Came charging into the Livingroom and attacked Kathleen as she laid on the floor. Leta yelled for her brother (James N Roy) and her Husband (Richard D Webb) to come and help.
Upon the Paramedic and Ambulance crew arrival the victim, Kathleen S Bartram was announced deceased.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Department, the Grant County Coroner’s Office, Matthews Fire Department, Marion Animal Care and Control, Grant County EMS, and the Marion General Hospital Ambulance service all assisted in this case.
