UPDATE (October 20, 2021):
The coroner has identified two people killed off Wells Street over the weekend.
The coroner says a 30-year-old Woodburn man and a 28-year-old man from Fort Wayne were the victims of the Sunday night shooting.
The Allen County Coroner released the following:
The autopsies have been completed and notification has been made to the next of kin for the two male victims that were located at the Well’s Street Mobile Home Court, 3126 Wells Street, Lot 11, in Fort Wayne, on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at approximately 20:58 hours. Fort Wayne Police Located an individual within the mobile home. He has been positively identified as Benyamin Jovon McQuiller Jr, a male, black, 28 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana. Benyamin Jovon McQuiller Jr. was pronounced deceased at the scene by Three Rivers Ambulance Authority. A second victim was transported from the scene to a local hospital where death was pronounced a short time after arrival. He has been positively identified as Lige James Johnson, male, white, 30 years of age from Woodburn, Indiana.
Benyamin Jovon McQuiller’s Cause of Death has been determined to be Gunshot Wound of Chest and the Manner of Death is Homicide. Benyamin Jovon McQuiller Jr. is the 33rd Homicide in Allen County, Indiana for 2021. Lige James Johnson’s Cause of Death has been determined to be Exsanguination due to Multiple Gunshot Wounds, and the Manner of Death is Homicide. Lige James Johnson is the 34th Homicide in Allen County, Indiana, for 2021. The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office. FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Police are investigating a shooting that left two men dead and another hurt Sunday night.
It happened at the Wells Street Mobile Home Court on Wells Street just before 9 p.m.
Police say that there was some kind of fight and a man pulled a gun.
FWPD officials released the following:
On October 17th, 2021 at approximately 8:58 PM dispatched received a call that a male had been shot at 3126 Wells St; Lot 12. Police arrived on scene and found one adult female and two adult males with gunshot wounds.
After preliminary investigations it is believed the following occurred. The female and male victims arrived together to visit a friend at lot 12. Shortly after they arrived the male suspect arrived at lot 12 with a handgun. The male suspect shot the male and female victims. A struggle ensued over the gun and the male suspect was shot.
When police arrived on scene they discovered the victims and the suspect. The female had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The male victim was declared deceased at the scene. The male suspect was taken to a local hospital to treat a life-threatening gunshot wound. At the hospital the male succumbed to his wounds and died at the hospital.
It is unknown the relationship the victims had with the suspect or a motive at this time. It is also unknown if there were any other individuals involved with this incident. Investigators are currently interviewing witnesses and neighbors for further information.
