FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department say that one person is in critical condition following a crash on Stellhorn on Friday.
Police say that it happened when one of the vehicles failed to yield around Manistee Drive.
Officials also say they suspect that speed was a factor in the crash as well. Another person was hurt in the crash but expected to recover.
FWPD officials released the following:
On Friday, 09/24/2021, at approximately 7:16 PM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the area of 5200 Block of Stellhorn Road in reference to a vehicle crash with injuries. Dispatch received several calls indicating the crash involved one occupant being pinned inside the vehicle. Officers arrived on the scene and determined the crash involved a Ford Expedition and a Ford Taurus, each with male drivers. The driver of the Taurus was still pinned inside the vehicle. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Physicians advised the driver of the Taurus suffered life-threatening
injuries. The driver of the Expedition suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary information indicates the Taurus was traveling Westbound on Stellhorn Rd and the Expedition was traveling Southbound on Manistee Dr and failed to yield. The Expedition entered the traffic lane and struck the Taurus. Investigators indicated excessive speed as a contributing factor in the crash.
Stellhorn Road, between Reed Rd and Woodway Dr, will remain closed to all traffic while Crash Investigators process the scene. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department.
