UPDATE (April 11, 2023):
LAFAYETTE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Former Purdue University student Ji Min Sha has been found not competent to stand trial for the death of his roommate.
Sha is being cared for by the state Division of Mental Health and Addiction and could still stand trial if he improves.
The state has 90 days to evaluate if the former student has the probability of attaining the ability to understand what is happening.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A Purdue student accused of killing his roommate may attempt an insanity plea.
Attorneys have requested 22-year-old Ji Min Sha’s competency to stand trial be determined.
Sha allegedly killed 20-year-old Varun Manish Chheda in October. His next hearing is December 2nd.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A Purdue University student is charged with one count of murder connected to the fatal stabbing of his roommate.
Last week, 22-year-old Ji Min Sha called 911 to report the death of 20-year-old Varun Manish Chheda.
An autopsy revealed Chheda died from multiple sharp-force traumatic injuries. No motive for the attack has been established yet.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A Purdue University student is facing a murder charge for the death of his roommate.
20-year-old Varun Manish Chheda was found dead in McCutcheon Hall early Wednesday morning. His cause of death was multiple sharp-force traumatic injuries.
22-year-old Ji Min Sha was arrested for Chheda’s death, but his motive is still unclear. Police continue to investigate.
