UPDATE (September 24, 2024):
PORTLAND, Ind. (ADAMS) – The National Weather Service is confirming a second tornado touched down in Jay County Sunday evening. The second tornado was an EF-1 with peak wind speeds of 110 miles an hour, and it was on the ground for six minutes from 7:45 to 7:51 p.m. over two miles between Blaine and Portland.
The first tornado is rated EF-Unknown because it only damaged a cornfield about two miles north-northeast of Blaine. The EF-1 twister damaged Jay County Jr./Sr. High School, several homes, and the American Legion Post of Portland.

PORTLAND, Ind. (ADAMS) – While northeast Indiana needed rain – severe weather is never quite welcome. And that is exactly what came to Jay County overnight.
The National Weather Service is confirming a tornado hit Jay County Sunday night.
There were no injuries according to the Jay County Emergency Management Agency, but the Jay County Jr./Sr. High School suffered heavy damage with part of the roof being ripped off. The Jay School Corporation is closed today.
Other nearby homes were also damaged. The National Weather Service will be surveying tornado damage today as well.
