FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – INDOT will host a public hearing to inform residents and solicit feedback about the U.S. 30 Corridor Improvements Project in western Allen County.
INDOT published the Environmental Assessment (EA) for the U.S. 30 Corridor Improvements Project on September 5, 2024. Details about the meeting, as well as the EA, are available here. Meeting materials will be available on the website on September 23.
INDOT released the following:
The project’s need is identified as current and projected unacceptable levels of service (LOS) at corridor intersections, along with an existing high rate of crashes at the signalized U.S. 30/ Kroemer Road intersection. LOS is a measure of the quality of traffic flow, from least congested (free flow) to most congested (breakdown flow). The project’s purpose is to reduce congestion and improve safety along the U.S. 30 corridor between U.S. 33 and Stahlhut Road by reducing vehicle crash rates along U.S. 30 and improving intersection and mainline LOS on U.S. 30.
The proposed project includes the construction of a diverging diamond interchange at U.S. 30 and Flaugh Road in Allen County. The traffic signal at U.S. 30 and Kroemer Road is proposed to be removed and replaced with a median, allowing traffic to only turn right onto or off of U.S. 30. The O’Day Road intersection is recommended to be replaced with an overpass, removing access to U.S. 30. The Stahlhut Road intersection at U.S. 30 is proposed to be closed. To accommodate traffic changes to local roads, new roundabouts are recommended to be constructed at the intersections of California/Flaugh Road and California/Kroemer Road.
The proposed project would not cause any relocations of residences or businesses. The project would require acquisition of 84 acres of new right-of-way (ROW) as well as 41.6 acres of ROW reacquisition, for a total of 125.6 acres of ROW, in addition to 4.17 acres of temporary right-of-way needed during construction.
The estimated costs include $10,042,875 for preliminary engineering, $9,675,000 for right-of-way acquisition and $50,892,056 for construction.
