UPDATE (August 22, 2024):
The coroner has released the identities and causes of death for the two people found dead in a vehicle Monday morning off Tonkel Road. The coroner says that Nicole Beason was shot and killed while Robert Beason took his own life.
The following was released:
The autopsies have been completed and notification has been made to the next of kin for the individuals found deceased within their vehicle in the 14000 block of Tonkel Road, in Leo-Cedarville, on Monday, August 19, 2024, at approximately 0359 hours. The decedents are husband and wife who were pronounced deceased at the scene by Northeast EMS.
Identified are Nicole Danielle Beason a female, White, 41 years of age and Robert Glenn Beason, a male, white, 44 years of age, both are from Leo-Cedarville, Indiana. Nicole Danielle Beason’s Cause of Death has been determined to be a Gunshot Wound of Head, and the Manner of Death is Homicide. Nicole Danielle Beason is the 25th Homicide for Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2024.
Robert Glenn Beason’s Cause of Death has been determined to be a Gunshot Wound of the Head, and the Manner is Suicide.
The incident remains under investigation by the Allen County Police Department, the Allen County
Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

ALLEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Allen County Sheriff’s Department says that it is investigating the deaths of two people found in a vehicle off Tonkel Road early Monday morning.
Just before 4 a.m., officers were sent to the roadway close to Hursh Road on reports that a vehicle had crashed into a guardrail. When they approached, they found two people inside that appeared to have been shot.
Both of the occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. They have not yet been identified.
According to the sheriff’s department, two long guns were also located inside the vehicle. The release to the press and public also added that there is no threat to the public.
Tonkel Road was closed from Hosler to Hursh for approximately four hours for the investigation.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department released the following:
On August 19, 2024, at approximately 3:59 A.M., officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the area of Tonkel Road, between Hursh Road and Hosler Road, reference a vehicle into the guardrail. Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle against the guardrail with two people inside. The adult male and adult female inside the vehicle appeared to have gunshot wounds and were pronounced deceased by medics on scene. There were two long guns located in the vehicle.
There is no threat to the public at this time. Detectives believe this is an isolated incident, only involving the two parties located inside of the vehicle.
Tonkel Road was reopened just before 8:00 A.M.
This incident remains under investigation.
