FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department says that a man has been arrested in connection with a case from over six years ago that investigators feared had gone cold. Jason Underwood was shot multiple times and killed on August 13, 2017, at a boat dock off E. California Road, near Purdue Fort Wayne.

Police say that Fargo Bennett, 28, was taken into custody following a traffic stop Monday afternoon on Winchester Road. He is preliminarily charged with murder.

Details/Summary: On April 22, 2024, at 1356 hours, the Fort Wayne Police Department took Fargo Bennett into custody without incident following a traffic stop conducted in the 7500 block of Winchester Rd. This arrest was in connection with the cold case homicide of Jason Underwood that occurred on August 13, 2017, in the 1800 block of E. California Rd. The FWPD Homicide and Cold Case Detectives worked tirelessly on this homicide investigation and were assisted by the FBI, Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, United States Attorney’s Office, Gang and Violent Crimes Unit and FWPD Uniform Officers. Bennett is currently being held in the Allen County Jail on the preliminary charge of Murder.
