FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) says a northeast home suffered minor to moderate damage in a fire Tuesday night.
Firefighters responded to Sunderland Drive near the intersection of Maplecrest and Rothman just after 7:15 p.m.
Officials say it started as an “accidental fire” in the chimney area that made its way to the attic.
The FWFD arrived while the fire was still active, but crews were able to extinguish the fire before it continued to spread.
Two adults evacuated from the house and were not hurt.
The FWFD released the following:
Fort Wayne fire Dept. was dispatched on a reported structure fire. Upon engine 8’s arrival no visible fire was seen from a small one story residential. All occupants were out of the house. Crews found an active fire in the attic around the chimney. A fire attack hose line was pulled from the engine with a quick extinguishment of the fire before it spread further. Crews had to do some overhaul around the attic and chimney to catch all hot spots. No injuries were reported. The fire was determined to be an accidental fireplace/chimney fire. Neighborhood code, AEP, NIPSCO, TRAA and PD assisted.
