FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A student is accused of bringing a gun to a Fort Wayne school.
Southwest Allen County Schools officials say administrators were made aware of the weapon at Summit Middle School on Monday afternoon.
A school resource officer searched the student’s bag and found the unloaded gun.
Leaders say the student did not make threats to the building or anyone in it.

Just before 1 p.m. this afternoon, administrators at Summit Middle School were alerted that a student may be in possession of a gun. The student was immediately found, taken to a secured area, and he and his book bag were searched by a school resource officer. A unloaded gun with no ammunition was found. The student made no threats and did not indicate an intent to harm anyone in the school building.
We are thankful for those who notified staff of the presence of the weapon and the quick response of our school resource officers. As always, please remind your child that if they see or hear anything that makes them feel unsafe or uncomfortable, they should immediately report it to a trusted adult. We all must play a role in maintaining a safe learning environment for our students.
