FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fire officials say that two cats died in a fire on the southeast side Tuesday afternoon.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) responded around 4:30 p.m., to the 6700 block of South Anthony Boulevard.
When crews arrived, smoke and fire were seen from the home on multiple sides, according to the FWFD.
One adult and one child made it out of the home, but crews had to search for four cats from the home. The FWFD said that all the cats were removed from the house but two of them did not survive.
The house suffered heavy fire and smoke damage along with moderate water damage.
Fire officials believe the cause of the fire was an accidental electrical issue.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to the report of a residential structure fire. Upon arrival of the first units, smoke and fire was showing from the home from multiple sides. Crews pulled handlines and entered the structure making sure all occupants were out while extinguishing the fire. Crews were hampered by electrical issues while fighting the fire. 4 cats were pulled from the house and 2 of them perished. Firefighters continued working on the fire for a period of time to ensure the fire was extinguished. The fire was cleared by investigators and was found to be an accidental electrical issue. Assisting on the scene was FWPD, N.H.C., A.E.P, N.I.P.S.C.O. and the American Red Cross.
