FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A woman and her cat are safe after a fire broke out at their home on Lower Huntington Road Sunday afternoon around 3 p.m.
Crews were called to 3726 Lower Huntington Road to find flames coming from the front windows of the one-story house.
Firefighters were able to make entry and gain control in about 30 minutes.
The home suffered heavy fire and smoke damage. The cause is still being determined.

FWFD crews were dispatched for reports of a house on fire. Crews arrived on scene finding a one-story home with a lower level garage. The house had heavy fire visible from the front windows and front door on arrival. Crews pulled multiple hose lines and began attacking the fire from the interior and exterior of the home. Homeowner self-evacuated safely and her cat also was able to escape the home on its own. Crews brought the fire under control in just over 30 minutes and did extensive overhaul of the structure to make sure all extensive areas of fire spread were extinguished. Fire investigators are on scene determining the cause of the fire. Neighborhood Code Enforcement, NIPSCO, AEP, FWPD, and TRAA all assisted on scene.
