FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police now say that an 18-year-old has been charged in connection to a Sunday night shooting that left one man in critical condition.
Officers were called around 10 p.m. on reports of a shooting near the intersection of Spatz Avenue and Senate Avenue.
According to police, a man with a gunshot wound was found laying in the street on South Park Drive. The victim was taken to a hospital and was reportedly listed with life-threatening injuries. Initially, police said that witnesses were cooperating.
FWPD officials released the following after the shooting:
On Sunday November 27th 2022 at approximately 2206 hrs Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Dept were dispatched to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Spatz Ave and Senate Ave. Officers arrived to find an adult male victim in the 4400 block of South Park Dr suffering an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported by TRAA to a local area hospital where he was declared to be in life threatening condition. Several witnesses have been identified and are cooperating with the investigation. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. On Monday, the FWPD said that officers conducting the investigation were able to identify a possible suspect and location in the 4400 block of Smith Street.
FWPD Homicide detectives later placed 18-year-old Sheldon Ray Dobson Jr. into custody for the charge of Aggravated Battery.
