JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Several women at an Indiana jail are filing a lawsuit against corrections officers working there. Eight women are listed as plaintiffs in the suit.
They allege that an officer gave his colleagues keys to the women’s cells for $1,000.
The suit claims they were then beaten, raped and threatened with further assaults if they pressed the emergency call button.
Now-former officer David Lowe was arrested and fired before the lawsuit was filed.
The Sheriff’s Office released a statement saying this was the work of a single “rogue” officer, but the lawsuit alleges no officers on duty that night attempted to stop the situation, despite it being on surveillance cameras. An investigation is still ongoing.
