FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Police are asking the public for help in finding out what led up to a shooting that happened in the early hours of Saturday morning on the city’s southeast side.
Just after 2:00 a.m., police responded to the 1800 block of Pontiac Street on reports of a shooting. There, they found a woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police focused their investigation at the intersection of Anthony Boulevard and Oxford Street where they believe the victim was inside a vehicle stopped at a red light when shots were fired from another vehicle.
The driver of the car tried to take the victim to the hospital, but eventually pulled over to call 911.

On Saturday, 07/23/2022, at approximately 2:05 AM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 1800 block of Pontiac St regarding a shooting.
Officers arrived on scene to find an adult female victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is reported as being in life- threatening condition. Officers learned that the shooting took place at the intersection of Anthony Blvd & Oxford St, while the victim was inside a vehicle stopped at a red light. Shots were fired from another vehicle striking the vehicle that the victim was inside. Officers did locate several casings at that intersection, which caused the roadway to be closed for evidence collection. The driver of the vehicle attempted to drive the victim to the hospital, but eventually pulled over to call 911 for medical assistance.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
