UPDATE (January 12, 2022):
The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified a man killed in a crash on Monday at Coldwater and Ludwig Roads.
Fort Wayne police believe he was driving south on Coldwater and failed to stop at a stop sign just as another vehicle was turning onto the road.
The driver of the other vehicle, an adult woman, was taken to the hospital but is expected to survive.
According to the information released by the Allen County coroner’s Office, Richard Sarazen was removed from his vehicle and taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

On Monday, January 10, 2022 the Allen County Coroner’s Office was contacted and advised of the death of Richard Scott Sarazen, male white 36 years of age, from Fort Wayne, who was a driver involved in a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Coldwater and Ludwig Roads, in Fort Wayne. The crash occurred at about 1530 hours on Monday, January 10, 2022.
Richard Scott Sarazen was extricated from his vehicle and transported to a local hospital where death was pronounced a short time after arrival.
The next of kin has been notified of the death.
The Cause of Death has been determined to be Blunt Force Injuries due to Motor Vehicle Crash and the Manner of Death is Accident. Richard Scott Sarazen is the 4th Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash in Allen County for 2022. This incident is under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police say one person was killed after disregarding a stop sign and being hit on Coldwater Road near I-69.
Police were called around 3:30 p.m. to Coldwater Road and Ludwig Road on a report of a crash with injuries.
According to police, a silver Dodge Journey SUV and silver Ford Focus wagon were involved in the crash that closed the roadway for a period of time on Monday afternoon.
Police say the Ford that was heading eastbound pulled onto Coldwater Road and was struck by the southbound Dodge.
FWPD officials released the following:
On Monday, 01/10/2022, at approximately 3:29 PM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of East Ludwig Road and Coldwater Road in reference to a vehicle crash with injuries. Initial reports indicated a crash between a Ford Focus and a Dodge Journey.
Officers arrived and determined there was one occupant in each vehicle. The driver of the Dodge (female/adult) was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford (male/adult) was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. After his arrival at the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries and died.
Preliminary information indicates the Dodge Journey was southbound on Coldwater Rd. and the Ford Focus was eastbound on Ludwig Rd. The Ford pulled out onto Coldwater Rd. and was struck by the Dodge. Investigators advised that alcohol and speed do not appear to be contributing factors.
Coldwater Rd. was closed southbound between I-69 and Ludwig while investigators processed the scene.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroner’s Office, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim.
