Police search for person of interest in death of young mother

UPDATE(May 31, 2019): Fort Wayne police have identified a suspect in the shooting death of a young mother early Thursday morning. They believed they tracked the man to the Villages of Hanna.

The FWPD Emergency Services Team, Crisis Response Team, and the Air Support Unit were called in to assist on a possible barricaded subject at 1400 Green Street. The subject believed to be in the building was a person of interest Leon Lumpkin. He is wanted for questioning in the shooting death of a young mother, Arrianna Henderson earlier Thursday morning.
Lumpkin was not located at the apartment in question. Officers started searching a specific neighborhood after some possible sightings were made but were unable to locate the suspect.
Lumpkin is a male black, 26 years of age. He has the word “Libra” in a script tattoo on the front of his neck. He is approximately 5’6”, 170 pounds. He is considered armed and extremely dangerous. We are asking community assistance in finding this person as soon as possible.

The Allen County Coroner’s office released the following later on Thursday – declaring her death a homicide:

“The Allen County Coroner’s Office has completed the autopsy and made notification to the next of kin, of the female victim that was located in the pavilion in the 800 block of Buchanan Street this (Thursday) morning, at approximately 01:16 hours. She has been positively identified as Arrianna Lee Henderson, female, black, 20 years of age, of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Cause of Death has been determined to be Gunshot Wound(s) and the Manner of Death is Homicide. Arrianna Lee Henderson is the 11th Homicide victim in Allen County for 2019.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.”


FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police are piecing together two incidents overnight that they believe are related and left one woman dead. Police say at approximately 1:16 a.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Buchanan Street reference an armed robbery. When they arrived on the scene and spoke with the original complainant/victim of the armed robbery. While canvassing the area where the robbery occurred, officers located a female/adult victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s). The victim was located under a pavilion behind the Chapel Oaks Apartment leasing office. Paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

Preliminary information indicates the armed robbery and death investigation are related incidents. Anyone with information is asked to call the Fort Wayne Police Department at (260) 427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at (260) 436-7867.

This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroner’s Office, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity along with the cause and manner of death. There are no additional details at this time.
