UPDATE (October 14, 2021):
Police are asking for tips and continue to investigate to find out who pulled the trigger that killed a man just south of downtown Tuesday night.
Police say he was shot in a vehicle before crashing on John St. The coroner identified the victim as 39-year-old Johnny Mathes Foy III. His death was ruled a homicide.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following on Wednesday:
The autopsy has been completed and notification has been made to the next of kin for the male victim that was found in a vehicle in the 2300 block of John Street, in Fort Wayne, on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at approximately 22:51 hours. The deceased has been positively identified as Johnny Mathes Foy III, a male, black, 39 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Cause of Death has been determined to be Gunshot Wound of Chest and the Manner of Death is Homicide. Johnny Mathes Foy III is the 32nd Homicide victim for Fort Wayne and Allen County, in 2021 The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police say a man was killed in a shooting Wednesday night.
Officers believe he was shot before crashing into a vehicle on John Street, just south of downtown, around 10:45 p.m.
Police believe the shooting happened inside his vehicle and they are now interviewing witnesses and asking for tips to help find who pulled the trigger.
FWPD officials released the following:
On Tuesday, 10/12/2021, at approximately 10:43 PM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 2300 block of John St. reference shots fired, followed by a vehicle crash.
Officers arrived and located a male/adult victim in the driver seat of a crashed Toyota Corolla. The victim was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Paramedics arrived to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
Initial information indicates the shooting occurred while the victim was inside the vehicle, which then crashed into a vehicle parked on John St. Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses and Crime Scene Investigators are processing the scene in an effort to obtain additional details. There is no suspect information to provide at this time.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the deceased identity along with the official cause and manner of death.
