Fort Wayne, Ind. (ADAMS) – The man charged with shooting and killing a Meijer Gas Station employee on Thanksgiving night now knows when he will go to trial.
Victor Rivera is charged with for the killing of Jacob Walerko. According to court documents, Walerko was shot with a sawed off shot gun by Rivera in a robbery attempt. After the shooting, Rivera jumped over the counter and stole a carton of cigarettes before taking off on foot.
A probable cause affidavit reported multiple people recognized Rivera in the following days after surveillance footage was distributed to news outlets in the city. He was arrested a short time later.
Rivera was formally charged with Murder, Robbery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, and Use of a Firearm in Commission of Offense.
According to Allen County Superior Court, he will have a jury trial starting on May 1st, 2018. It is scheduled to last 4 days.
