ANN ARBOR, Mich. (ADAMS) – Following the approval of a ballot question in 2018, adults 21 and older can now buy recreational marijuana in Michigan.
Legal sales began on Sunday, though there are just a handful of communities who have so far opted into the state’s system. Three of the four facilities are in Ann Arbor.
Ahmed Ismail was among many who came to Ann Arbor from all over Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania when marijuana became legal for adults over 21 on Sunday.
Detroit won’t allow recreational marijuana sales until January 31st at the earliest, and over 1,400 local governments have so far opted out of the system. The first person to buy marijuana legally was Kelly Savage, and he camped out for more than ten hours to do so.
