FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – On Thursday, the Greenways Foundation of Indiana presented the City of Fort Wayne’s Greenways & Trails Manager Dawn Ritchie with the Outstanding Public Official award during a virtual awards presentation. The award is to recognize visionary and passionate public officials who make great trails happen.

Fort Wayne Trails, Inc. nominated Dawn for her support of the regional trails network since 2005 when there were only about 20 miles of trails. She has been influential in expanding the community’s trail system, which now includes 120 miles of trail and connects neighborhoods throughout Fort Wayne and beyond. In 2010, Dawn launched the Trek the Trails rides to introduce hundreds of citizens to sections of the trail that they might not have otherwise explored, and advocates for using active transportation to commute to and from downtown Fort Wayne. Dawn also helped set up the volunteer system that utilizes 80 Greenway Rangers who provide close oversight of safety and security issues, keep the trails clean and provide trail users with information.

Dawn has been a long-time board member of the Greenways Foundation and is an active member of the Greenways Foundation advisory board.
