FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – This holiday weekend, Gym Rats Basketball Association will host their 2019 Memorial Day Run-N-Slam May 24-26 at several locations throughout the city.
Tournaments will take place at Spiece Fieldhouse, SportOne/Parkview Fieldhouse, Turnstone Plassman Athletic Center and Carroll Highschool.
“The Annual Gym Rats Memorial Day Run N Slam has consistently had over 225 teams from across the country competing in this great event. It is a testament to Fort Wayne’s excellent facilities and hospitality!” said Gym Rats Director of Basketball Operation Chris Ponce.
This weekend 2,240 athletes plus their coaches and families will come to Fort Wayne for this event for an estimated total of 8,000 visitors. Hotels, restaurants and attractions near tournament locations will see a significant increase in business. The estimated economic impact for this event is nearly 1.2 million dollars.
“Gym Rats has a proven track record of hosting well-run and competitive tournaments. With Fort Wayne as their home base, we have become well-known, nationwide for high-quality basketball. It’s been a strong foundation for furthering our sports tourism initiatives,” said Visit Fort Wayne Sports Sales Manager Stephanie Coleman.
