Fort Wayne man released from jail after road rage acquittal

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The man cleared of a deadly road rage fight in Fort Wayne is out of jail.

A jury last week found Brandon Cook not guilty of manslaughter for a fight along Highway 30 last year that left a man dead. Doctors say the man died from a heart attack, but say the fight is what caused the heart attack.

The jury found Cook guilty of battery, but that’s a misdemeanor charge. Cook walked out of jail yesterday.

The Allen County Prosecutor’s Office released the following statement:

“Brandon Cook was sentenced this morning to one year, for a misdemeanor battery that he was convicted of by jury last week, in Allen Superior Court. We are proud of the outstanding efforts of law enforcement for their investigation and for locating Mr. Cook so that he could be held accountable for his actions. We are disappointed, on behalf of Mr. Fernandez’s family, with the jury’s verdict finding Cook not guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter. However, we will pursue justice and work on behalf of this community and for families whose loved ones have been victims of crime. We will continue to file and take difficult cases to trial and enforce the laws of the State of Indiana.”
