Fired for same-sex marriage, guidance counselor taking action

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Roncalli High School guidance counselor who is on administrative leave for being in a same-sex marriage says she will take legal action against the school. Shelly Fitzgerald said Thursday that she’s not trying to change the teachings of the Catholic Church.

She made the announcement alongside her legal team yesterday. A charge of discrimination will be filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission within the next month. The school says her marriage is a violation of her contract.

Suspended Roncalli High School guidance counselor Shelly Fitzgerald says she’s fighting for equality.
Fitzgerald says she’s hoping to improve the environment at the school.
