Dance Promenade!

Park Foundation Pavilion, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

March 1, 6:00-9:00 p.m. and each Wednesday until March 29

Learn some new moves at the riverfront. Shuffle into the Park Foundation Pavilion on Wednesday nights to learn and practice a new style of dance. Instructors from a variety of local dance groups and schools will offer lessons at the beginning of the night followed by open dancing. The type of dance will rotate to include styles from waltzing to line dancing and also traditional cultural dances. All ages and abilities are welcome.

 “California Dreamin’” Showcase Exhibit

Calling all mamas and papas—find your inner beach bum at the Botanical Conservatory. Bring on the good vibes and hang loose at the botanical boardwalk accented with sun-loving tropical plants and vivid waves of color. Let the kiddos spring into the spirit of surf, sand and sun! Be sure to experience this Cali-cool winter exhibit.

Kerstin Glaess: “Coast to Coast”

Kerstin Glaess is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist working primarily in oil, collage and photography. She is best known for her paintings based on photographs and memories from her worldwide military adventures as a child. Kerstin continues to be inspired by a nature collection of flora, fauna and landscapes from her various homes across two continents, two countries, eleven states, one U.S. Territory and counting! Her diverse collections of collages and drawings focus on the shared human experience teasing the borders between dreamscapes and reality. Coast to Coast is fittingly on display during the California Dreamin’ Showcase Exhibit at the Botanical Conservatory.

Thursdays, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Find your inner beach bum and good vibes when you experience the California Dreamin’ showcase exhibit along with the Tropical and Desert gardens in the Conservatory. Admission is just $1 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. every Thursday. Civic Center Garage parking is validated for free.

Chloe Arnold’s Syncopated Ladies Live

Founded by Emmy-nominated choreographer, Chloé Arnold, Syncopated Ladies is the most-viewed female tap dance band in history. Known for their viral self-produced content, they were recognized by Beyoncé, who not only shared their work saying “They killed it,” she then transformed the homepage of Beyonce.com to feature Syncopated Ladies.

Spring Forward on the Trails! Join The City of Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne Trails, Inc. and Little River Wetlands Project (LRWP) for a guided bike ride along the Towpath Trail, followed by a guided hike at Eagle Marsh! This event is FREE and open to all ages and experience levels.

This St. Patrick’s Day, there will be a pot of gold to be found in Waynedale! Well, maybe not an actual pot of gold, but hundreds of dollars in local prizes will be up for grabs in a new community game called The Waynedale Shamrock Search.

Yoga on the Riverfront continues this Spring on the 2nd Sunday of the month in the Park Foundation Pavilion (with the exception of April on the 3rd Sunday). This relaxing, 1-hour flow is for all skill levels and led by instructor Chelsea Vona, owner of Discover Yoga. Yoga mats can be provided if you do not have your own.

NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championships

The NCAA today, the Fort Wayne Mastodons and Manchester University Spartans were selected to host a total of five separate NCAA basketball championships events, starting in 2019, all taking place at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Visit Fort Wayne and the Memorial Coliseum partnered with both local institutions to submit a total of 25 bids during the summer of 2016, for events taking place from 2019 to 2022. The NCAA announced championship event hosts for all sports in all three divisions for all four years.

Fire and Light began as a youth theatre club in a church basement, to a fully-fledged troupe of 93 actors and artists, ages 8-18, performing 5-7 productions a year.

It is March of 1864. The men of the 9th Indiana Volunteer Infantry are on garrison duty in Northeastern Alabama, on the verge of setting off on spring campaigns. Come and talk to the soldiers about their daily life in a garrison. Observe the daily duties and responsibilities as the regiment maintains its watch on the surrounding area. Morning parade, drills, and guard mount will occur throughout the day, weather permitting.

Spring is the season of new beginnings. Fresh blooms open, animals awaken, and the earth seems to come to life once more. Come out and join the celebration at Promenade Park. It begins with an educational and entertaining presentation from the Soarin’ Hawk Raptor Rehabilitation Center. See their amazing birds of prey up-close from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in the pavilion. After the presentation, continue the family fun on a birdwatching tour, making bird seed crafts, and learning the basics of birdwatching. Binoculars and craft materials for kids and adults will be provided. Finally, don’t leave the park without making a fun paper bag kite craft and completing our scavenger hunt that will have you exploring the fresh sights, smells, and sounds of the beginning of Spring. Stop by anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. for this FREE event.

Indiana Waterways: The Art of Conservation

See the works of five artists and their views of Indiana waterways in this exhibition of 60 paintings designed to call attention to the importance of protecting the state’s 62,000 miles of rivers, streams and tributaries in Indiana. The artists are Avon Waters (from Converse, working in pastels), John Kelty (Fort Wayne, watercolors), Curt Stanfield (Rosedale, oils) and brothers Dan and Tom Woodson (Muncie, oils); their subject matter is from all over Indiana.
