Alcohol suspected in overnight crash at Wallace and Hanna

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Investigators think alcohol was a factor in a crash early Friday morning.
On Friday, 07/12/2019, at approximately 1:52 AM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of Wallace Street and Hanna Street reference a vehicle crash with injuries. Officers arrived on scene and observed the male/adult victim was unconscious and unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. The driver was the sole occupant inside the vehicle. Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital in serious condition. Upon arriving at the hospital, a physician advised the victim’s injuries were life threatening.

Preliminary reports indicate a Fort Wayne city street department dump truck was southbound on Hanna Street and stopped at the traffic signal at Wallace Street. The victim was southbound on Hanna Street and rear ended the dump truck that was stopped at the red traffic signal light. The driver of the dump truck was not injured. Investigators reported it does appear alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. The intersection of Wallace Street and Hanna Street will be closed while Investigators process the scene.

This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
