Alcohol suspected in fatal Spring Street motorcycle crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – FWPD officials say one man is dead following a crash on Monday. At approximately 7:16 p.m., the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of Spring Street and Rumsey Avenue reference a vehicle crash with injuries.

Witnesses reported the crash involved a passenger car and a motorcycle. Officers arrived on scene and located the driver of the motorcycle lying in the middle of the intersection. Paramedics transported the male/adult driver of the motorcycle to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary information indicates the driver of the motorcycle (sole occupant) was traveling eastbound on Spring Street and the passenger car was traveling westbound on Spring Street.
Witnesses reported the driver of the passenger car failed to yield the right-of-way and turned left in front of the motorcycle while attempting to turn south onto Rumsey Avenue.

The driver of the passenger car remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
He did not report any injuries as a result of the crash. Investigators reported alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the crash on behalf of the driver of the passenger car. The driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet.
