FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Aging & In-Home Services (AIHS) has hosted Community Grab ‘n Go Meal Distribution biweekly throughout northeast Indiana since April in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The last program was held on September 25th. Due to the high demand for this program, AIHS is starting a campaign called “Fill Their Plate” to raise funding for additional Community Grab ‘n Go Distribution Programs throughout the holiday season.
These events are for individuals 60 years of age and older – a Photo ID and telephone number must be provided. Each attendee 60+ receives two prepackaged boxes of five shelf-stable meals (10 total) at no charge.
AIHS released, in part, the following statement:
“This program saw an outpouring of support last round, serving 98,340 meals to seniors in need and could not have been made possible without the support of dedicated community donors. In a recent survey, it was reported that 55% of participants reported not having access to food without the Community Grab n’ Go Meal Events. All donations are important, $25 supports one week of meals. There are individual and corporate sponsorship opportunities available. Please contact Megan Clouse, Marketing and Communications Director, at phone 260-745-1200, extension 275 for additional details.
AIHS will continue support to address the nutritional needs of older adults and persons with disabilities through the Meals on Wheels/Home Delivered Meals Program. If you or your loved one is homebound, you can call Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) at 260-469-3036 to determine eligibility for Meals on Wheels/Home Delivered Meals.”
AIHS is also asking the community to continue to assist in identifying older adults who are at risk but may not be aware of AIHS’ services. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, call 260-745-1200.
