ALLEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – A crash on U.S. 33 in Allen County left one person in critical condition and shut down traffic for hours Wednesday night.
Around 7 p.m., deputies responded to the crash close to Cook and Johnson roads. It was reported as a head-on collision with one vehicle crossing the center line for an unknown reason.
There were not many details released but police said one of the drivers was taken from the scene by paramedics in critical condition. No one else was hurt. The crash is still under investigation.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department released the following:
On January 17, 2024, at approximately 7:00 P.M., officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of U.S. 33, north of Cook Road, regarding a two-vehicle crash with injuries. Upon arrival, officers and medics located two vehicles and one driver with injuries.
A preliminary investigation indicated that a passenger car was northbound on U.S. 33, north of Cook Road. The second vehicle involved was also a passenger car, which was southbound on U.S. 33, north of Cook Road. For unknown reasons, one of the vehicles appeared to have crossed the centerline, causing a head-on crash.
The driver in the northbound vehicle was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
The driver in the southbound vehicle was not injured.
This incident remains under investigation.
