George Washington never knew dinosaurs existed?

Fun (and not-so-fun) facts:  


  • Palm fronds are extremely hardy.  They’re difficult to process into mulch or compost and can take up to 50 years to decompose on their own.  The fronds also account for 3.4% of the 1 million tons of waste each year in Phoenix landfills.


  • George Washington died in 1799, and the first dinosaur fossil was found in 1824, which means Washington never knew dinosaurs existed.  But if you think about it, dinosaurs also never knew George Washington existed either.


  • The most common two-letter combinations you’ll find in English words are:  TH . . . HE . . . IN . . . ER . . . and AN.


  • Before Linda Gray was Sue Ellen Ewing on “Dallas”, she worked as a body double for Anne Bancroft on “The Graduate”. And it’s actually her leg on the famous movie poster.  (Here’s the poster.)


  • The highest-grossing media franchise is . . . “Pokemon”.  The movies have “only” made about $1.5 billion, but the retail sales have topped $100 billion.  “Hello Kitty”is second, “Mickey Mouse & Friends” is third, and “Star Wars” is fourth.

  • In a new poll, 34% of people say children will be BETTER OFF if they don’t get a smartphone until they are 18.  24% say they’ll be WORSE OFF.  (Full Story)  (In another poll, the most popular age to give a kid a phone is 14 to 16.)


  • A fire chief in Japan started a grass fire while trying to scare a bee.  He threw a ROAD FLARE at the bee, and it ignited a 500 square-foot area.  Since he was the fire chief, they caught it quickly, and it was out within 30 minutes.  (Full Story)


  • A couple in India sued their son, demanding that he and his wife “produce a child” within a year, or pay them 50 million rupees in compensation.  That’s a little less than $650,000.  They’re salty because they spent a lot on the wedding . . . but the couple is too busy professionally to have kids.  (Full Story)


  • There’s a video online that shows a Yellow Cab Tesla crashing into a convention center in Columbus, Ohio at about 70 miles per hour.  It’s from last week.  No one was injured.  The driver was charged with failure to control.  (Full Story)


  • A woman was streaming herself cooking on Twitch or attempting to cook.  She nearly burned down her kitchen when a grease fire started in one of the pans.  She didn’t have a fire extinguisher, but she got lucky and the fire didn’t spread.  (Full Story)  (WARNING:  There’s a TON of profanity in the video.)
