FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Allen County Coroner has identified the six-year-old who died after being hit by a car in Fort Wayne as Christopher Menjivar.
The boy was crossing Pontiac Street with friends Tuesday when police say he darted in front of the vehicle. The driver is cooperating with police and has not been publicly identified.
Alcohol and speed are not believed to have been factors.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:
On August 13, 2024, at about 2125 hours the Allen County Coroner’s Office was notified of a fatal motor vehicle crash on E. Pontiac Street at Abbott Street, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time after arrival. An autopsy has been completed and the victim has been identified as Christopher Macias Menjivar, male, Hispanic, 6 years of age, from Fort Wayne, Indiana. Notification has been made to the legal next of kin. The Cause of Death is Multiple Blunt Force Injuries of the Head due to Pedestrian versus Motor Vehicle Crash and the Manner of Death is Accident. Christopher Macias Menjivar is the 24th motor vehicle fatality for Allen County in 2024. The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a pedestrian struck at Abbott St. and E.Pontiac St. just before 8pm this evening. A male juvenile was crossing Pontiac Southbound when a vehicle traveling Westbound on Pontiac struck him. According to witness accounts, the child darted in front of the vehicle causing the accident. The adult male driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation and there were no apparent signs of impairment. Speed, also does not appear to be a factor. All information is preliminary and subject to change during the course of the investigation. After being struck the child was rendered aid, then transported by TRAA to a local hospital in life-threatening condition. While at the hospital, the child was pronounced deceased by medical staff. FWPD chaplains made the scene of the accident and hospital to console the family and community. This incident remains under investigation by the FWPD Fatal Accident Crash Team, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Coroner’s Office.
