FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Healthier Moms and Babies kicked off their third annual community-wide diaper drive on Saturday, June 1st, 2024. They are asking for donations of diapers and wipes to help reduce diaper needs in our community. This year, 90 local businesses and organizations have committed to collecting donations through public drop sites and internal donation drives.
Representatives released the following:
Through their home visitation programs and their Hopper Mobile Outreach, Healthier Moms and Babies provides diapers and wipes to the families that need them most. Diaper need affects 1 in 3 families across the state. Diapers are an essential need to keep babies clean, healthy, and dry— but so many families cannot afford them.
In 2023, they distributed over 300,000 diapers to the community. Diaper need affects the whole family: Without clean diapers. babies are exposed to potential health risks and toxic stress, mothers are at risk for increased maternal depression, which can increase her risk of preterm birth, and parents are unable to access childcare, which require a daily supply of diapers, causing parents to miss work or school.
By donating diapers and wipes, you can help reduce diaper need in your community—this keeps more babies healthy, so they can grow and thrive in our community. Your donations stay here in Northeast Indiana, supporting your neighbors in need. Last year, community members donated over 115,000 diapers and wipes! We are hoping to surpass this number this year!
Through the Community-wide Diaper Drive, Healthier Moms and babies is accepting unopened diapers and wipes. Their highest need is sizes 3, 4, 5, 6, 2T/3T, 4T/5T, and wipes. Community members can donate during business hours at any public drop site between now and June 16th. To find the public drop site closest to you or to donate online, click here
