DEKALB CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Officials in DeKalb County say that four people are facing charges after a police chase ended in a crash on Friday.
Just before 2 p.m., the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department says a deputy attempted to pull over a Nissan sedan that was going 81 mph in a 50 mph zone on Auburn Drive. That’s when police say that the car sped away.
The deputy saw what he believed to be drugs being thrown out the vehicle’s window during the chase. Police later determined that it was 65 grams of methamphetamine that has been tossed out.
According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department., the pursuit continued to SR 8, where another officer was putting tire deflation devices at the road’s intersection with CR 59.
Police said the car went through a gravel lot before returning to the road heading toward Butler.
It was on the 3000 block of CR 61 when the car left the road and drove into a field where there was a hidden ditch, according to the police. The car ran into that ditch going 60 mph.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department did not say if anyone was hurt but that all four people in the vehicle were arrested.

A DeKalb County Deputy attempted a traffic stop on a Nissan sedan for speed (81/50). The Nissan sped away on Auburn Drive near Grandstaff Drive. The deputy observed items thrown from the vehicle he believed to be drugs. The deputy pursued the vehicle. The vehicle went East on Auburn Dr. to State Road (SR) 8, then East on SR 8 until it came upon another deputy attempting to deploy tire deflation devices on SR 8 at County Road (CR) 59.
The Nissan then went off road through a gravel lot then North on CR 59 toward Butler passing SDI. CR 59 turns into CR 61 near SDI. The Nissan traveled North on CR 61 until it went off road into a field in the 3000 block of CR 61. There was a hidden ditch in the field. The Nissan went into the ditch at approximately 60 mph.
All the occupants were injured and transported to Parkview DeKalb Hospital. All occupants were released from the hospital a short time later and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
Officers responded to the area where the items were thrown from the vehicle. Approximately 65 grams of methamphetamine were located. All occupants are being held on a Level 3 felony possession of methamphetamine further charges will be filed at the conclusion of the investigation.
