FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A Fort Wayne man is in police custody following a shooting in the parking lot of the downtown Taco Bell. Police say that 21-year-old Savion Prince Matthis-Phillips was arrested for aggravated battery.
Matthis-Phillips was taken into custody for allegedly shooting a man that was approaching the car he was in on West Jefferson Boulevard in a Taco Bell parking lot early Tuesday morning.
The victim is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Fort Wayne Police Department officials released the following:
On December 6th, 2022 at approximately 0243 hours, FWPD officers responded to the intersection of W. Jefferson Blvd. and Ewing St. on a shooting. Initial responding officers located a victim in the street at the intersection of Jefferson and Fairfield Ave. and they were transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. Officers on scene learned the shooting had occurred in a private parking lot at the intersection of Jefferson and Ewing St. and detained a suspect in the parking lot without incident. Homicide detectives interviewed witnesses and gathered video surveillance from area businesses. FWPD Crime Scene, ASU, and the ACPAO assisted with this investigation.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Police are investigating a shooting downtown that reportedly left one man with life-threatening injuries.
Police believe that the actual shooting happened at West Jefferson and Ewing around 2:45 a.m. in the Taco Bell parking lot.
Police say a man approached a vehicle that the two men were in. It isn’t clear what happened but police say it led to the man on foot being shot. He left the scene before collapsing close to Jefferson and Fairfield and was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
Right now, police are talking to the two men in the car who are reportedly cooperating.

The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Dec. 6th, 2022 at roughly 2:42 am on the Taco Bell parking lot at Jefferson Blvd. and Ewing St. Preliminary investigation indicates that two adult males were parked in a red Ford Focus on the parking lot of Taco Bell when they were approached by another adult male. The adult male that was approaching the vehicle was shot and walked to the intersection of Jefferson Blvd. and Fairfield Ave. where he collapsed in the roadway. Officers located the adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot would and rendered aid until he was transported by TRAA to a local hospital in life threatening condition.
The two adult males that were in the vehicle were detained and transported to the Police Station to be interviewed. At this point, evidence is being collected and processed for the investigation.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
