FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – It was a violent Independence Day in Fort Wayne. Police say one man was killed, another is in critical condition and two other people are expected to recover after being shot.
FWPD officers first responded to South Hanna and Colerick Street around 7:39 on reports of a shooting at a block party.
Police say both an adult man and a male juvenile were hit by gunfire. Both the adult and child were listed as having non-life-threatening injuries.
The Fort Wayne Police Department released the following:
S.Hanna St./Colerick St., 7/4/22, Monday at 7:39 pm
Victim 1: adult male, non-life threatening condition
Victim 2: male juvenile, non-life threatening condition
Summary:
Victim 1 was located at the scene suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Victim 2 was attending a block party when he was shot and was transported to a local hospital by private conveyance. As is protocol, the hospital contacted the police regarding the shooting victim who arrived at the hospital.
A short time later, around 9 p.m., responded to another reported shooting off Calhoun Street.
Officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds behind a home on the 4700 block of Calhoun Street. While waiting on paramedics, police say one man died at the scene.
The Allen County Coroner has now identified him. The coroner says 27-year-old Calvin Keys died of multiple gunshot wounds. His death was ruled as a homicide.
The Coroner released the following:
The autopsy has been completed and notification has been made to the next of kin for the male victim that was found in the 4700 block of South Calhoun Street, in Fort Wayne, on Sunday, July 4, 2022, at approximately 20:44 hours, suffering from gunshot wounds. The decedent has been positively identified as Calvin Jamere Keys, a male, black, 27 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Cause of Death has been determined to be Multiple Gunshot Wounds and the Manner of Death is Homicide. Calvin Jamere Keys is the 13th Homicide for Fort Wayne, Allen County for 2022. The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
The other man is reported to have life-threatening injuries.
Police are now asking for tips in this case.
FWPD officials released the following:
On July 4th, 2022 at approximately 8:46PM, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 4700 block of S Calhoun St, regarding two adult males being shot. FWPD arrived on scene and located both males in rear of the residence, both suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Responding officers rendered aid, while awaiting the arrival of medics who later transported one male to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The second male was pronounced deceased on scene.
FWPD Homicide and Crime Scene Technicians were called out to process the scene. Detectives are going door to door attempting to locate witnesses and/or video surveillance.
