UPDATE (September 24, 2021): Fort Wayne Police Department officials say that the man who admitted to pulling the trigger in a recent shooting has been formally charged.

On Thursday September 23, 2021 John Lloyd Vires 37 years of age has been formally charged with Murder in reference to the homicide investigation that occurred on September 22, 2021 at a residence located in the 1600 block of Franklin Avenue. Vires is currently being held in the Allen County Jail.
UPDATE (September 23, 2021):
There’s no mystery who pulled the trigger in one of Fort Wayne’s latest shootings.
Police say 37-year-old John Vires admitted to shooting his friend after a night of drinking. But Vires told police he had to shoot.
Vires says his friend started hitting him outside a downtown bar. They headed home and argued some more, and that’s when Vires says he grabbed his gun and fired. He’s in jail on aggravated battery charges right now.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Police Department officials say a man is dead after a shooting early Wednesday morning.
Police reported to the 1600 block of Franklin Avenue around 1 a.m. after someone reportedly walked into a home and fired a gun. When officers got there, they found an adult man who had been shot.
Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Police say they have a person of interest that is being questioned.
FWPD officials released the following:
On Wednesday, 09/22/2021, at approximately 1:06 AM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of Spring Street and Franklin Avenue reference a subject armed with a gun. The caller informed dispatch a male subject entered a residence in the area and fired a gun. Officers arrived on scene and were directed to a residence in the 1600 block of Franklin Avenue.
Officers entered the residence and located a male/adult victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
A person of interest is currently being interviewed by Detectives. Criminal charges will be determined once the interview is complete. There are no additional details at this time.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the deceased identity along with the cause and manner of death. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
